DSC Functionality and IBS Negative Terminal Connection Issues in BMW 5

Hello everyone, I'm having some problems with my BMW 5. I keep getting a recurring code 005EBA, which disables my DSC functionality. I've noticed that the battery location in the trunk appears to have been tampered with, leading me to suspect a potential issue with the IBS negative terminal. I've heard that the IBS are a frequent failure point on the E60. I'm also getting overvoltage readings occasionally. Could this code be related to the IBS negative terminal? If the DSC code is indeed a problem, would cleaning the steering angle sensor fix it, or would it be better to replace it? I'm also experiencing issues with locking/unlocking, power windows malfunctioning, and key fob problems. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Summary of the thread

A BMW 5 owner experienced a recurring code 005EBA, disabling the DSC functionality, and suspected issues with the IBS negative terminal due to tampering in the battery area. The problems included overvoltage readings and various electrical malfunctions. It was suggested to inspect the battery and IBS connections for damage or corrosion. After inspection, it was confirmed that the issue was due to an uncoded battery installed by the previous owner. Once a new battery was installed and coded, the problems were resolved.

Given the variety of issues you're experiencing, it does sound like there could be an issue with the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) or the battery itself. The IBS monitors the battery's state of charge, and if it's faulty, it can cause a variety of electrical issues, including the ones you're experiencing. Before replacing any parts, I would suggest starting with a thorough inspection of the battery and its connections. Ensure the battery is in good condition and fully charged. Check the IBS connection and wiring for any signs of damage or corrosion. If you find any issues, address those first and see if the problems persist. If everything looks good with the battery and IBS, then you might want to consider having the steering angle sensor inspected or replaced. However, I would recommend having a professional mechanic look at it, as it's a safety-relevant component. Please keep us updated on your progress and let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks, I know that would require removing airbag; I am going to take it for thorough inspection next Thursday to see if we can find it. I will go ahead and inspect the ibs and the wiring around it tomorrow. Best

That sounds like a good plan. Remember, safety first when dealing with airbags and other safety-relevant components. Please let us know how the inspection goes and if any issues are found with the IBS or its wiring. If you have any more questions or concerns, feel free to ask.

. Thanks for hearing me out. Confirmed it was electrical and simply battery. Previous owner installed a new battery back in 2020 without coding. Luckily after new anti grave battery was installed and coded, the only code I had was to set my time. First time ever, no leaks, not codes. Very happy with today's maintenance.
