Ducato Key Battery Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Fiat Ducato owner experienced issues with a 'key battery low' warning, unreliable keyless access, and a diagnostic tool indicating a key communication error. The problem was identified as a low battery in the key fob. Replacing the battery with a standard CR2032 button cell resolved the issues, restoring keyless entry functionality. A workshop visit confirmed no additional errors, highlighting the importance of maintaining a fully charged key fob battery for reliable vehicle access.

No, not yet, but I will. I wanted to ask first. It's good to know this is a known problem. Did you also have the error message stored? What kind of battery did you use?

Yes, there was an error code, indicating a communication problem with the key. It disappeared after changing the battery. A standard CR2032 button cell battery is sufficient, but to be sure, go to a workshop. They should check for stored errors.

Thanks! I replaced the battery (5€ for a two pack), and everything works, including keyless entry, so that was the cause. I went to the workshop to check the error memory. They confirmed no other errors (32€). Total of 37€. I'm glad it was a simple fix.

I experienced something similar with my Ducato. That 'key battery low' message can cause many issues. It sounds like the battery, but the system seems sensitive. The keyless entry demands peak battery performance. Have you replaced the battery?
