Ducato poor starting fuel consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Fiat Ducato diesel with 51,155 km is experiencing increased fuel consumption and difficulty starting, particularly in cold conditions. Initial suspicions include issues with the throttle valve or air intake. Further discussion suggests that the accelerator pedal module could also be a culprit, especially given the unstable engine idle. A technician's diagnostic confirmed the problem, leading to the replacement of the accelerator pedal module and throttle valve, resolving the issue.

I haven't done a full inspection of the throttle body, but a quick look didn't show anything obvious. The engine idle has been a bit unstable lately. Does that change your assessment? Could the accelerator pedal module be the problem?

The unstable idle along with starting issues does make the accelerator pedal module a possible cause. They can cause various problems when they start to go bad. Get a technician to do a thorough diagnostic. Ignoring it could lead to bigger repairs later.

I took it to a shop, and they confirmed the accelerator pedal module was bad and replaced the throttle valve. The total was 205€. Thanks for the help; it was really useful.

Those symptoms – higher fuel consumption and poor starting – do point to a throttle valve issue. Have you checked the throttle body for damage or carbon buildup? Is the engine idle fluctuating more than usual?
