Dying QX Battery? Warning Signs Every Owner Should Know

Hey all, my 2017 Infiniti QX (diesel) with 35,850 KM is giving me some electrical headaches. The engine's struggling to start in the mornings, and all the lights are acting up dimming and flickering unusually. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about going back. Has anyone dealt with similar electrical issues? Thinking it might be the auxiliary battery, but would love to hear your experiences and recommendations for trustworthy mechanics who know their way around Infinitis. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I had the exact same symptoms with my 2020 Infiniti Q50 diesel last winter. The unusual flickering lights and slow starts were a real pain. Turned out my auxiliary battery was completely shot it wasn't just low, but actually defective. Took it to my regular Infiniti certified shop last month. The diagnostic showed the battery wasn't holding charge properly anymore, even though my car only had about 45K on it. They had to replace both the auxiliary battery and check the alternator to make sure it wasn't the root cause. The alternator was fine, thankfully. It's not a super serious issue if you catch it early, but it can leave you stranded if ignored. These symptoms are pretty classic signs of battery failure in Infinitis. The auxiliary battery manages a lot of the electrical systems, so when it starts dying, you get all those weird electrical gremlins. Just make sure you go to someone who knows Infinitis they have some specific electrical quirks that need proper diagnostic tools to sort out properly. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with right now. This is really helpful to know it was the auxiliary battery in your case. Just curious do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole fix? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the battery replacement, or have you noticed any other issues pop up?

Hey again! Happy to update you! Since getting it fixed last month, my Q50's been running like a dream no more flickering lights or morning starting troubles. The total bill came to 290€ for the auxiliary battery replacement, which included labor and diagnostic work. Worth every penny, honestly! I'm especially relieved because I haven't had a single electrical problem since the repair. The mechanic showed me that the old auxiliary battery was completely shot, which explained all those weird electrical issues we were both experiencing. It's amazing how one faulty component can cause so many problems! Since you're having such similar symptoms, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later. When these auxiliary batteries go bad, they can sometimes cause issues with other electrical components if left too long. Let me know if you need any other details about the repair or my experience. Always happy to help a fellow Infiniti owner!

Thanks so much for all the info! Just wanted to update you on what happened. I took your advice and finally got my QX checked out yesterday. You were spot on it was the auxiliary battery! Found this great mechanic who specializes in Infinitis (thanks to some local recommendations). The whole thing cost me about 310€, pretty close to what you paid. They had it fixed within a couple of hours, and wow, what a difference! Started up this morning like a brand new car, and all those annoying flickering lights are gone. The mechanic was super helpful and showed me exactly what was wrong with the old battery. He also gave me some tips about maintaining the electrical system, which was a nice bonus. Really glad I didn't wait any longer to get it fixed. Thanks again for sharing your experience it really helped me make the decision to get it sorted before it turned into a bigger problem!
