E Klasse rough ride Damping adjustment fault

My 2004 Mercedes E Klasse with a gasoline engine is giving me a rough ride. The odometer reads 200726 km. I've got a damping adjustment fault showing up. The error is stored, and there's a warning light on the dash. Feels like the shock absorber is completely shot. Could this be a suspension issue?

Okay, generic damping fault points more towards the electrical connection. The plug is usually right on top of the shock absorber itself. You might need to remove the wheel to get a good look. But honestly, if you aren't comfortable poking around with the suspension, I would suggest taking it to a workshop. A damaged cable will cause suspension failure and that can get expensive fast.

Thanks a lot for the help! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. It was a defective plug connection. They repaired it for 95€. Ride comfort is back to normal now!
