Ecosport ABS Lateral Sensor Fault

I've got a 2004 Ford Ecosport, gasoline engine, with about 111,929 km on the clock. Recently, the ABS lamp lights up and the ABS system just gives up. When I read the error memory, it shows a fault with the lateral acceleration sensor. Is that something anyone else has run into? Could a defective control unit really be the culprit, like I'm starting to suspect?

Lateral sensor fault on the Ecosport ABS? It does sound plausible that the control unit is causing it, especially with those symptoms. Have you checked the steering angle sensor? Sometimes issues there can trigger similar errors.

Steering angle sensor, huh? I hadn't considered that. Where exactly is that located and how would I check it? Is it something I can do myself, or am I getting in over my head?

It's often integrated into the steering column. Checking it properly usually needs diagnostic equipment to read the values. If the lateral sensor is truly faulty and you're seeing ABS issues, a defective control unit is a strong possibility. Given that, and without proper tools, I'd recommend getting it checked by a workshop to confirm that and avoid further issues. You're potentially looking at around 1000€ for the repair, so best to be sure.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. The control unit was indeed defective. Cost me a bit, but at least the ABS is working again. Appreciate the help!
