Ecosport AC Failure

My 2005 Ford Ecosport with a gasoline engine has an A/C issue. It doesn't switch on, so there's no cooling. The speedometer shows a warning light, and the error memory has logged an error. Could a defective A/C control unit cause the refrigerant compressor to fail?

That sounds frustrating. I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra, but it turned out to be a faulty pressure sensor. Is your compressor making any unusual noises before it completely shuts down? Also, have you checked the AC fuse? It might be a simple fix.

Thanks for the quick reply! No, the compressor isn't making any noises at all; it simply refuses to engage. And yes, I did check the AC fuse, and it seems to be in good condition. Any further insight?

Alright, if the fuse is fine and there are no strange noises, and the error memory has logged an error, it might be a more complex electrical issue, like your suspicion regarding the control unit. Considering it's also triggering a warning light, it's probably best to take it to a reputable workshop. They'll be able to diagnose the problem accurately with the proper tools.

I appreciate your advice. I followed your suggestion and took the Ecosport to a workshop. Turns out the air conditioning control unit was indeed defective, resulting in a refrigerant compressor failure. The repair cost came to 980€.
