Ecosport exhaust back pressure sensor fault
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Ford Ecosport diesel was experiencing a warning light and excessive smoke, with diagnostics indicating an exhaust back pressure sensor fault, which was also hindering DPF regeneration. The suspected cause was a faulty sensor, possibly due to wiring issues or sensor malfunction. The suggested solution was to inspect the wiring and consult a technician for accurate diagnostics. Ultimately, replacing the exhaust back pressure sensor resolved the issue.

Cheers for the reply. I did give the wiring a quick once-over, didn't spot anything obvious, but I'll take a closer look. I haven't got any proper diagnostic gear to check the sensor readings live, though. What readings were you getting on your Peugeot before you binned the sensor?

I appreciate your diligence. Unfortunately, I am unable to recall the exact sensor readings from my Peugeot 308 incident. However, given your symptoms and the diagnostic code, the exhaust back pressure sensor seems to be the most probable culprit. In my experience, it is best to consult a qualified technician for accurate diagnostics and repair since you mentioned that you don't have the gear.

Yep, took your advice. Bit the bullet and got it booked in. New exhaust back pressure sensor fitted, cost 245€ all in. Seems to have sorted it. Thanks for the help!

Good day. I understand your frustration. While I haven't worked on a Ford Ecosport specifically, I encountered a similar problem with my old Peugeot 308. The symptoms you describe – warning light, smoke, and DPF issues – certainly point to a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. Have you checked the sensor's wiring for any damage or corrosion? That sometimes throws up false positives. Also, did you check the sensor readings with the engine running and compare it to expected values?
