Edge Overheating Bypass Valve Error

I've got a 2006 Ford Edge with a gasoline engine. The error memory shows a bypass valve malfunction, and the engine is overheating. It's only done 31289 km, so I don't think it's a major failure. Could this be from something like the vacuum system or a small coolant leak? I want to avoid unnecessary costs, especially since the repair cost is showing as 0€.

Overheating and a bypass valve error? Sounds like a vacuum leak, maybe affecting the air intake or causing fuel efficiency problems. Have you checked for coolant leaks? Is the coolant level dropping? Why is the repair cost zero? Has someone looked at it already?

I haven't seen any coolant dropping or any leaks. The '0€' is just a placeholder from the diagnostic tool; it flagged the error but didn't estimate a cost. Could a faulty sensor be sending bad data to the engine control unit, causing the bypass valve error and overheating?

A faulty sensor could be it, but with those symptoms on a 2006 model... bypass valve errors and overheating? I'd bet there's a real problem. Sensors fail, but a vacuum issue impacting both systems is more likely. I'd take it to a trusted mechanic. It is a Ford, after all!

I think a professional diagnosis is best. It seems like it's probably a mechanical issue instead of just a sensor. I'll book an appointment with a good workshop and will share what they find.
