Yeah, now that you mention it, there IS a slight engine surge at higher speeds. It's subtle, but noticeable, like it's hunting for the right gear. Is that what you experienced? What did it end up being?

The engine surge, coupled with the grinding and slippage, is what led me to suspect the torque converter lock-up clutch. Given the error code you retrieved and the confluence of symptoms, it would be prudent to have the automatic gearbox inspected by a qualified technician. Continuing to operate the vehicle in its current state may exacerbate the issue, potentially leading to more extensive and costly repairs.

Thanks for confirming my fears! I took it to a shop, and you were spot on. The torque converter was indeed kaput. Cost me 2120€ to get it fixed. Appreciate the help!

I had similar symptoms on my Ford Edge, though I can't recall the exact error code. It definitely sounds like a converter fault. Does the engine seem to surge at all at highway speeds, almost like it can't decide what gear it wants to be in?
