Elantra automatic transmission issues

Hey, my 2012 Hyundai Elantra diesel is giving me some serious grief. The automatic transmission is acting up like crazy. I'm seeing implausible shifting behavior, the transmission indicator light is on, and sometimes it just refuses to shift properly, throwing the whole thing into emergency mode. Mileage is at 123330 km. I'm suspecting undervoltage as the culprit. Anyone else run into this nightmare?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Hyundai Elantra diesel is experiencing automatic transmission issues, including implausible shifting behavior, an illuminated transmission indicator light, and emergency mode activation. The suspected cause is undervoltage, but other potential issues include low hydraulic fluid or the need for a transmission flush. The recommended solution is to check the hydraulic fluid and consider visiting a workshop for a professional diagnosis and repair, which ultimately resolved the issue.

Whoa, sounds rough! I had a similar issue with my Elantra, though mine's a gasoline version. Were you able to read the error codes? Could be something simple like low hydraulic fluid, but with those symptoms, I'd be worried about something more. Has the transmission fluid ever been flushed?

Thanks for the quick reply! Nah, I haven't been able to check the error codes yet. And no, I haven't done a transmission flush in a while... you think that could be the issue? It feels more like a slipping transmission than anything else.

Definitely sounds like it's worth checking the hydraulic fluid, but honestly, the emergency mode thing points to something more serious. If you are not able to fix it, it is strongly recommended to visit a workshop. I bit the bullet and took mine in when it happened to me.

You're probably right... I was hoping to avoid the workshop. I had a mechanic take a look, and, as suspected, it was indeed related to the oil. Cost me 240€ to get it sorted out. Thanks a lot for the insight!
