Elantra diesel throttle valve issue
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Hyundai Elantra diesel exhibited reduced engine power and a check engine light, suspected to be due to a defective throttle valve or related electronic issues. Rough idling suggested a problem with the throttle body or sensor. It was advised to inspect and possibly clean the throttle body, but professional evaluation was recommended. The issue was confirmed to be a defective throttle valve, which was repaired, resolving the performance problems.

Rough idling is noticeable from time to time. Where exactly should I look for the throttle body? Is it easy to check?

Yeah, the rough idle confirms it. The throttle body sits between the air intake and the engine. You might be able to clean it, but with those symptoms, it's likely the sensor inside is shot. I’d suggest getting it checked at a workshop.

Alright, thanks. I took your advice and had a mechanic look at it. Turns out the throttle valve was indeed defective. Repair cost me 265€. Runs much better now.

Sounds familiar. Does the engine idle rough? Could be something with the air intake affecting the throttle sensor. Have you checked the throttle body for any buildup?
