Elantra Electric Steering Column Fault
Summary of the thread
The electric steering column adjustment on a 2008 Hyundai Elantra was malfunctioning, with an error code indicating a potential issue. Initial checks of the fuses revealed no problems, leading to a suspicion of a cable or plug issue. A suggestion was made to inspect the wiring harness near the steering column motor, as loose or corroded connections could be the cause. Ultimately, a faulty connector was identified and repaired at a workshop, resolving the issue.

Thanks! No, the motor is completely silent, like it's not getting power. Where should I look for this wiring harness? Is it easily accessible?

Yep, silent motor points to a power issue. The harness is tucked up pretty high, near the base of the steering column where it connects to the motor. You'll probably have to lie on your back in the footwell to get a good look. Honestly, it might be worth having a workshop take a peek. Save yourself the backache and potential for making things worse.

Okay, I hear you! I'm off to the workshop then. Thanks for confirming my suspicions and saving me from further frustration. It was indeed a faulty connector, right where you suspected. 95€ later and it's fixed!

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Elantra. Check the wiring harness near the steering column motor. Sometimes those connections get loose or corroded. Does the motor make any noise when you try to adjust it?
