Elantra hybrid suspension fault

I'm having a weird issue with my 2020 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid. It's got about 189,100 km on it. The air suspension seems to have given up. The car won't lift anymore and is leaning to one side. I'm also getting an error message and the low beams are pointing way off. I scanned for codes and it's showing a suspension fault. I'm guessing it's the compressor, but I checked the obvious stuff like fuses. Could it be a bad connection somewhere?

Summary of the thread

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid is experiencing a suspension fault, causing the car to lean and display error messages. The issue is suspected to be related to the air suspension system, possibly due to a faulty compressor or a bad connection. A similar case with a Hyundai Sonata revealed a corroded connector on the compressor, which was resolved by cleaning and re-seating the connector. Professional diagnosis confirmed the same issue in the Elantra, temporarily fixing the problem, with a recommendation to replace the pump soon.

I had a similar issue with my Hyundai Sonata (also a hybrid, though a bit older). The symptoms you describe – the leaning, the error messages, the headlight issue – sound eerily familiar. It could indeed be a defective cable or plug connection of the component causing the compressor to malfunction. This would be like a kink in a garden hose, preventing the water (or in this case, the air) from flowing properly.

Interesting. When you say similar, how similar are we talking? Was it a pain to diagnose the bad connection? And if so, do you remember where the bad connection was?

By similar, I mean the exact same symptoms. Error codes and all. However, rather than getting my hands dirty tracing wires, I took it to a trusted workshop as my expertise does not extend far enough to work with electricity. They pinpointed a corroded connector on the compressor itself. It was causing intermittent power, and eventually, the compressor gave up. They cleaned it, but advised replacement soon. Given the potential complexities of the hybrid system and suspension components, a professional diagnosis is the safest bet.

Thanks for sharing that. I appreciate the advice. I think I'll take it to the shop. Turns out, you were right! Took it in, and it was indeed a corroded connector at the compressor, just like your experience. Cleaning and re-seating the connector seems to have fixed it for now - all in all 95€. They also recommended replacing the pump soon, but at least I know what to expect.
