Elantra Poor Cold Start
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Hyundai Elantra with 158,583 km is experiencing poor cold starts and rough running. The initial suspicion is a faulty cold start injector, with potential issues in the fuel delivery system, such as the fuel rail or injection valve. A suggestion to check the fuel pressure regulator is made, as it could cause a lean fuel mixture on startup. Ultimately, a faulty cold start injector is identified and replaced, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the tip about the fuel pressure regulator. I haven't checked that yet. When your Astra had this issue, did the diagnostic codes point to the regulator, or did you figure it out by checking the fuel injection system?

The codes were vague, just saying there was a fuel trim issue. But when I watched the fuel pressure during cold starts, I found the bad regulator on my Astra. Given how many kilometers your Elantra has, a bad injector is likely. I'd suggest taking it to a good shop for a proper check.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a shop, and they found a faulty cold start injector. It cost 515€ to replace, including labor. The Elantra now starts and runs perfectly. Thanks again for your help.

That sounds like the problem I had with my 2016 Opel Astra. Hard starting and poor cold running were the main signs. Did you check the fuel pressure regulator? Mine was causing a lean fuel mixture on startup. What readings are you getting from your fuel system?
