Elantra Sunroof Not Initialized
Summary of the thread
The 2001 Hyundai Elantra is experiencing a "not initialized" error with the sunroof, leading to a stuck sunblind and an unresponsive convertible top. This issue may be linked to recent coding changes involving the body control module (BCM), which can affect sunroof operations. The recommended solution is to have the sunroof recalibrated by a professional workshop, as they possess the necessary tools and expertise to address the problem effectively.

Thanks for the quick reply! I think the coding did involve the BCM. It was supposed to optimize some engine parameters, but clearly something went wrong. Did you have the same symptoms – stuck sunblind, top not working? Did you manage to fix it yourself, or did you have to take it somewhere?

Yep, almost exactly the same. The sunblind was jammed solid, and the roof was completely unresponsive. Honestly, I wouldn't try to fix it yourself unless you REALLY know what you're doing with car electronics. These systems are interconnected, and you could make things worse. I ended up taking mine to a workshop; they said the sunroof needed to be recalibrated after the coding messed with the settings. They have the proper tools and software to do it right.

Okay, that's exactly what I needed to hear. Sounds like I'm heading to the workshop. Knowing it's likely a calibration issue caused by the coding makes me feel a lot better. Thanks a million for sharing your experience! Just got a quote for 75€, hopefully that solves it.

Whoa, that sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my Elantra – not sure what year yours is – but the sunroof went completely haywire after some work. These sunroof systems are really sensitive, especially when someone messes with the car's computer. Did the 'coding' involve anything related to the body control module (BCM)? That's often linked to sunroof operation.
