Electrical faults and navigation problems with 2018 Karoq Skoda - experiences and suggested solutions wanted

Hello everyone! I'm currently having some issues with my 2018 Karoq Skoda (petrol engine). I am experiencing a general electrical fault, the sat nav is not working and the warning light in the speedo is illuminated. I have a feeling that a fault in the communication between the ECUs could be causing the problem, but I'm not sure. Have any of you ever had similar experiences and can give me tips on how to solve the problem? How did your workshop resolve this? Answers and personal experiences very welcome! Thank you!

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Skoda Karoq owner is experiencing electrical faults, including a non-functional sat nav and an illuminated warning light on the speedometer. The suspected cause is a communication fault between the ECUs. Suggested solutions include checking for defective cable connections, particularly to the BUS system, and considering a software update to address potential CAN bus system faults. These solutions have been effective for similar issues in other Skoda models.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I once had a similar problem with my 2016 Skoda Octavia. I'm not a mechanic, but my garage found that the cable connection of the control unit was defective, especially the connection to the BUS system. Cost me 155 euros. Can you give me a few more details about your vehicle? Maybe then I can help you a little better. What model is it exactly? What engine do you have? The more information, the better!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! My car is a 2018 Skoda Karoq with a gasoline engine. It has just 32809 km on the odometer. The idea with the cable connection sounds interesting, that could actually be the problem. I'll have a look at it at the next workshop visit. Thanks again for the tip!

Hi, I once had a similar problem with my 2015 Skoda Yeti. The communication between the control units was actually the problem. Just like you, the sat nav stopped working and the warning light in the speedometer came on. When I went to the garage, the guys carried out a full diagnostic test and discovered a fault in the CAN bus system. This system is responsible for communication between the various devices in the car. Apparently a software update was needed to fix this problem. The system was then reset and everything worked as it should. So don't be surprised if they start talking about software updates - it can really help! It cost me about 95 euros at the time, including labor. Hope this helps and good luck with the troubleshooting at the workshop!

Hey, thanks for the tip! A software update doesn't sound as dramatic as a cable fault. It's great that you were able to solve the problem with such an update. I will definitely bring this up at my next workshop visit and hope that they can solve the problem in the same way. Thank you also for your good wishes, I can really use that! I'll keep you posted on how things progress. Thanks again!

Good morning, car is Skoda Octavia estate RS TDİ 2.0 year 2019. When it rains some errors come up. E.g. Front assist, park pilot, brake light, license plate light, trunk does not open ( no electric tailgate ).

It sounds like you might be dealing with water ingress issues, possibly affecting your electrical system. Check for any signs of water leakage into the vehicle, especially around the fuse box and wiring harnesses. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, I'd recommend taking your car to a professional mechanic as soon as possible, as water damage can lead to serious electrical issues. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?
