Electrical malfunctions and battery problems in 2008 Toyota FJCruiser

Hi guys, I have been having some problems with my 2008 Toyota FJCruiser for some time now. It shows general electrical malfunctions, the indicator lights flicker or light up dimly and the battery also kind of dies when starting. It also keeps showing a fault in the "open circuit terminal 30". Have any of you ever had similar problems? What was your experience at the mechanic? Unfortunately, I had a bad experience on my last visit and don't want to be ripped off again. Oh yes, my bike already has 289323 kilometers on the clock and runs on petrol. Thank you in advance for your help!

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Toyota FJCruiser is experiencing electrical malfunctions, including flickering indicator lights, a dying battery during startup, and a fault in the "open circuit terminal 30." A similar issue in another FJCruiser was resolved by replacing the defective on-board control unit, which controls the car's electrical functions. The suggested solution is to replace this unit, ideally at a reputable garage familiar with Toyota vehicles, to ensure the problem is resolved effectively.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had similar problems with my 2011 Toyota FJCruiser. Like you, the indicator lights in my car were constantly flickering and the battery didn't really want to start. After the diagnosis in the workshop, it turned out that the on-board control unit was defective. This unit controls all the electrical functions of the car and can cause a variety of symptoms if it is not working properly. As the indicator lights were coming on a bit randomly and my car was making quite an abnormal noise when starting, the diagnosis was somewhat logical. It was definitely a serious problem; the garage had to replace the on-board control unit. After the repair, my FJCruiser ran much better. Hope this helps you!

Hi, thanks for your quick reply! It's good to know that someone has had the same problem before. I had already suspected something similar. Now I just need to find a trustworthy workshop to replace the on-board control unit properly. May I ask how much it cost you back then? And have you had any other problems since then or was that the final solution? Thanks in advance for your further information!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! Replacing the on-board control unit cost me €1000 at the time. That may sound like a lot at first, but after that my Toyota ran like clockwork. This also fixed the fault with the interruption of terminal 30. I haven't had any similar problems since then. My advice to you would be that you shouldn't hesitate, it's a lot of money, but in the end it's worth it. Just for the record, always make sure you get the job done at a good garage, preferably one that knows Toyota. Good luck with that!

Hey, oh wow, €1000 sounds really expensive at first, but if it solves the problem for good, then it's really worth it to me. Your experience definitely gives me courage. And you're absolutely right, I definitely shouldn't save money in the wrong place. I'll keep an eye out for a good garage that really knows its way around Toyota. Thank you again for your help and advice, it has helped me a lot! Greetings!
