Electronics failure and warning light issues on 2016 Ford Explorer: Need help with troubleshooting

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my 2016 Ford Explorer, gasoline engine. There is a general electronics failure, the navigation system doesn't work and the warning light in the speedometer comes on. I suspect faulty coding but I'm not an expert. Has anyone had similar experiences and can tell me how this was fixed in the workshop? Thanks in advance for your help!

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Ford Explorer is experiencing a general electronics failure, with the navigation system not working and a warning light appearing on the speedometer. The suspected cause is faulty coding, but a similar issue in another vehicle was traced to a faulty control unit. The suggested solution is to visit a garage for a thorough check, as the control unit might be the problem, and to prevent further damage.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2015 Ford Edge, diesel. I wouldn't call myself a car expert, but I have worked on cars occasionally. When the problem occurred, I took the car to the garage. They said it was the control unit that was faulty. The repair ended up costing me 1000 euros. Without exact details about your car, however, it is difficult to give more precise information. Could it be that you have the same control unit issue? Could you provide more details about your vehicle to be able to provide more accurate help?

Hey, thanks for your help! My Ford Explorer now has 53712 km on the clock. The last service was only recently, but nothing out of the ordinary was found. A technical problem with the control unit could really be the case, I wouldn't have thought that the repair could be so expensive. I'll probably have to visit a garage. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! Yes, that does sound like a problem with the control unit. Especially if nothing out of the ordinary was found during your last service and now these problems are suddenly occurring. ECUs are unfortunately a common weak point with many car manufacturers, not just Ford. The price quoted was only for my particular case, it may be that it will be more expensive or cheaper for you, depending on the extent of the damage and the workshop. In any case, I would advise you to have it checked soon to prevent further damage. And ask the garage for the exact cause, they can often give you tips on how to avoid such problems in the future. Keep us up to date and good luck!

Hey, thanks for your detailed reply and the tip about the garage! I will definitely have it checked soon and hope that the damage is limited. It's a shame that the electronics in particular often cause such problems, even though they are supposed to improve the driving experience. I will definitely let you know about the repair and the cause, maybe my experience can help other drivers. Thanks again and have a nice evening!
