Elgrand Automatic Gearbox Problems

I've got a 2000 Nissan Elgrand with a diesel engine, and the automatic gearbox is giving me grief. It's got 97983 km on the clock. I'm getting implausible shifting behavior, the transmission indicator light is on, it's not shifting properly, and sometimes it goes into emergency mode. I've checked fluid levels, they seem okay, but I suspect the worst. Could it be the torque converter?

Sounds familiar. I had similar transmission problems with my Elgrand a while back. Is it possibly related to undervoltage? Check your battery and alternator before tearing into the transmission itself. Saved me time and money.

Undervoltage, huh? Interesting. I hadn't considered that. How did you figure out it was an electrical issue and not something internal to the transmission? Was it throwing any specific fault codes?

Initially I suspected the worst. But voltages were all over the place. The TCU is super sensitive. Before condemning the transmission itself, get the electrical system checked out by a professional. They can run diagnostics and confirm if undervoltage is the culprit.

Thanks for the tip! Took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out it was indeed undervoltage causing the transmission to act up. Got the electrical issue sorted for 240€ and the transmission is shifting smoothly again. Appreciate the help!
