Elgrand Power Loss
Summary of the thread
The 2001 Nissan Elgrand diesel experienced intermittent check engine light activation, reduced engine power, sluggishness, and increased fuel consumption. The potential causes included a faulty manifold pressure sensor and a vacuum leak, as indicated by a faint hissing sound. The solution involved replacing the manifold pressure sensor and fixing the vacuum leak, which resolved the power loss issue.

A manifold pressure sensor, huh? I haven't checked that specifically. Where is that located, and how would I go about testing it? And yes, thinking about it, I do sometimes hear a faint hissing sound, especially when accelerating.

Yep, sounds even more like the same issue. The manifold pressure sensor, or MAP sensor, is usually located on the intake manifold itself. As for testing, you'd need a multimeter and some technical know-how, or a diagnostic tool. Honestly, given the hissing sound, it really points to a large vacuum leakage and you’re probably better off taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed. It’s possible the leak damaged the sensor.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a mechanic, and you were spot on. It was a faulty manifold pressure sensor caused by a large vacuum leakage. They replaced the sensor, fixed the leak, and now it's running like a champ again. Repair cost was 235€. Cheers!

Hey, that sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old 2008 Volvo V70. Check engine light, loss of power, the whole nine yards. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty manifold pressure sensor. Have you had that checked? Also, are you hearing any hissing sounds that might indicate a vacuum leak?
