Emergency Call System Issues

Anyone else experiencing issues with the emergency call system on their 2017 Mini Cabrio? I'm getting an error message in the speedometer, a warning light, and the error is also stored in the error memory. My research points to a defective cable or plug connection, but I'm curious if anyone else has seen this. I'm concerned about car safety and potential call failure, so any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Mini Cabrio owner experienced issues with the emergency call system, receiving an error message and warning light. Research suggested a defective cable or plug connection as the cause. A fellow Mini owner recommended checking the telematics control module and using an OBD2 scanner to pull diagnostic codes. After following this advice and visiting a workshop, the problem was confirmed to be a defective connection, which was repaired, resolving the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with the emergency call system in my Mini Cooper. The error message popped up out of nowhere and was quite annoying. Did you check the telematics control module? Sometimes a simple reset can solve the problem. Also, have you pulled the diagnostic codes to see what they say?

Thanks for your reply! Where exactly is the telematics control module located? And when you say 'pulled the diagnostic codes', do you mean using an OBD2 scanner to read the error memory? I've got one, so I can check if you think it will help.

Yes, by 'pulled the codes' I meant using an OBD2 scanner to read the error memory. The telematics control module is usually located under the passenger seat or in the trunk area, but I would not mess with it too much. If the error persists after clearing the codes, it's best to take it to a workshop. They'll be able to properly diagnose and fix the cable or plug connection, ensuring the car safety is not jeopardized.

Just wanted to close the loop on this issue. I took your advice and brought the Mini to a trusted workshop. Turns out it was a defective connection, just as the diagnostic codes suggested. They replaced the faulty connector, and the emergency call system is now functioning perfectly. The final bill was 95€, which is exactly what I expected. Thanks again for your help. It saved me a lot of time and potential headaches!
