Emergency Call System Malfunction

Alright, I'm officially pulling my hair out! My 2012 Mini One is showing an emergency call system malfunction. It's got on the clock. There's an error stored, a message constantly popping up in the speedometer, and a warning light that won't quit. I had it scanned, and the report says it's likely a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone else dealt with this gremlin before? Any advice before I end up at the mercy of the repair shop?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Mini One is experiencing an emergency call system malfunction, with persistent error messages and warning lights. The issue is likely due to a defective cable or plug connection. After consulting with others, it was suggested to check fuses and consider a system reset, but ultimately, professional repair was advised. The problem was resolved by replacing a faulty connector, avoiding a more costly control module replacement.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my old Volvo, although it was the airbag system throwing errors. Kept getting a 'Service Urgent' message. Have you tried any basic troubleshooting like checking the fuses related to the car safety and automotive electronics systems? Also, did you try a system reset?

Thanks for the quick reply! Fuses seem okay at first glance. By system reset, do you mean disconnecting the battery or is there a specific procedure for the emergency call system control module? I'm a bit wary of messing with automotive electronics without knowing exactly what I'm doing.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend disconnecting the battery unless you know what you're doing as you could create further issues. In my case, the Volvo dealer determined it was a faulty connector on the airbag control module itself. Best bet is to take it in; they should be able to pinpoint the exact cable or plug that's causing the call failure. At least you have an idea of the likely cause already.

Just wanted to give you a quick update took the Mini to the workshop today. Turns out, just like you suspected, it was a faulty connection in the emergency call system. They replaced the connector, and all is well now. Cost me 95€, which is better than a complete control module replacement! Thanks again for the advice really appreciate you sharing your experience!
