Where exactly is the telematics unit located in the Mini Cooper? Is it easily accessible, or do I need to disassemble interior trim?

In my Volvo, it was behind the glove box. It's probably best to consult a repair manual or take it to a workshop. They can pinpoint the exact location and properly diagnose the cable connections.

Interesting. I had a similar call failure issue in my Volvo a while back. The SOS signal light was on constantly. Did you check the telematics unit itself for any visible damage or loose connections?
