Endeavour poor fuel consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Ford Endeavour with high mileage is experiencing poor fuel consumption and rough starting, with a diagnostic code indicating an issue with the throttle valve. The initial suspicion is a faulty accelerator pedal module. A suggestion is made to check the throttle position sensor (TPS) as it can cause similar symptoms and affect fuel economy. Ultimately, the problem is confirmed to be the accelerator pedal module, which is replaced, resolving the issue.

Interesting! Yeah, the idle is hunting a bit, now that you mention it. Where exactly is the TPS located on these engines? And could a bad TPS really tank the fuel economy that badly?

It's bolted right onto the throttle body itself. And yes, a faulty TPS can absolutely destroy your fuel economy. The ECU uses its readings to calculate fuel injection, and if it's getting garbage data, it'll dump fuel like there's no tomorrow. But with these symptoms, I'd recommend going to a workshop. It could be a defective accelerator pedal module, which is more expensive.

Thanks! I took it to a workshop as you suggested and it was indeed the accelerator pedal module. New one cost me 205€, but she's running like a champ again.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Endeavour. Is the engine idle also acting strange? If so, check the throttle position sensor first. It's often overlooked, but a faulty TPS can mimic a bad throttle body and cause those symptoms.
