Endeavour transmission issues

I own a 2008 Ford Endeavour with a diesel engine and 148140 km mileage. I'm experiencing some transmission issues. Symptoms include the engine warning light, emergency mode activation, unclean gear shifts, and grinding noises. I suspect a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. Could low gearbox oil be the cause?

Hi there. I had very similar issues with my Endeavour. The error memory also showed a faulty temperature sensor. Have you checked your gearbox oil level? That was the culprit for me.

Thank you for your advice. I haven't checked the oil level yet. Is it something I can easily do myself, or does it require special equipment or expertise?

While checking the level yourself is possible, accessing the fill point can be tricky. Given the grinding noises, and if you're not experienced with transmissions, I'd advise taking it to a trusted workshop to avoid further damage. It's likely just a top-up, but better safe than sorry.

Thank you again for your advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were right – the gearbox oil level was too low. They replaced the temperature sensor and topped up the oil. The total repair cost was 365€. Everything is working fine now.
