Engine Boiling Over Sprinter Control Unit Problems

My 2017 Mercedes Sprinter diesel is giving me fits. It has a check engine light on, the engine is overheating, and there's coolant leaking underneath after it gets hot. My car diagnostics tool is showing a control unit communication fault. I suspect it's a bad connection somewhere. Could it be a software glitch? Has anyone experienced anything similar? I read somewhere it could be a data link issue. Any ideas before I spend a fortune?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Mercedes Sprinter diesel is experiencing engine overheating, coolant leakage, and a check engine light, with diagnostics indicating a control unit communication fault. The issue is suspected to be a bad connection, possibly a data link issue, rather than a software glitch. A similar case was resolved by fixing a defective cable connection to the control unit, which cleared the fault codes and resolved the overheating problem.

Sounds frustrating! I had something similar happen with my Sprinter. The symptoms sound familiar. Overheating and coolant spills can be scary. Have you checked all the cable and plug connections? The control unit can throw fits if it's not getting a solid signal. It's like a bad phone connection, you know?

I checked a few obvious connections, but there are so many! Which cable or plug connection are you talking about specifically? Was it related to the cooling system directly or something else that triggered the overheating? Did your car diagnostics tool also show the same communication fault?

Honestly, I'm no expert. My car diagnostics tool was showing similar communication fault codes. To be safe, I would suggest taking it to a workshop. They ran some tests and found a defective connection. I would hate for you to keep poking around and make things worse. Just my two cents!

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. It was a defective cable connection to the control unit, just like you thought. They fixed the connection, cleared the codes, and now it's running perfectly. Total repair cost was 95€. Appreciate the help!
