Engine problems and high fuel consumption with Opel Agila (2009): Experiences and opinions wanted

Hello everyone, have any of you ever had similar problems with an Opel Agila (built in 2009, gasoline engine, 102083 km run)? Recently the check engine light came on, the engine just stalls, has no power, runs rough, the car jerks when accelerating and the fuel consumption is also higher than normal. I suspect it could be due to the throttle valve (throttle valve fault). After a bad experience at the last workshop visit, I would like to get your opinions and experiences before I go back to the mechanic. Thanks in advance! Greetings!

Summary of the thread

An Opel Agila (2009) is experiencing engine problems, including stalling, lack of power, rough running, jerking during acceleration, and increased fuel consumption, with the check engine light on. The suspected cause is a throttle valve fault. Another person shared a similar experience with an Opel Astra, where the issue was resolved by replacing a defective accelerator pedal module, suggesting this could also be the cause of the Agila's problems. It is recommended to have a mechanic check the accelerator pedal module as a potential solution.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hello, I had similar symptoms with my Opel Astra (built in 2012, petrol engine) a few years ago. The check engine light came on and it also ran erratically. In my case, it was a defective accelerator pedal module. That was a serious problem because it affected the entire engine control system. However, the throttle valve was not the problem in my case. It wasn't a simple repair, the pedal module had to be completely replaced. But after that, my car ran like new again. I recommend that you go to a mechanic and have the accelerator pedal module checked. Maybe this is also the cause. Greetings!

Hi, thanks for the feedback and the reference to the accelerator pedal module! Would you happen to remember how much the repair cost in your case? And did the problem occur again after the accelerator pedal module was replaced or since then? It would be great if you had more information. Best regards!

Hello, after I visited my mechanic, the problem with the fault in the throttle valve was resolved. It didn't show up again after the repair, so everything is fine there. As for the cost of repairing the accelerator pedal module, I can tell you that it cost me €205. So it definitely wasn't a bargain, but my car ran smoothly again afterwards. Since then, the problem has not recurred. I hope this helps you. Greetings!

Hi, great, thanks for the information! That gives me a good idea of the possible costs. I'll have my mechanic ask about the accelerator pedal module and hope that fixes the problem. I'll get back to you when I have any news. Best regards!
