Engine problems in the 2019 Peugeot Rifter: fault diagnosis and troubleshooting tips
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
The 2019 Peugeot Rifter is experiencing several issues including the check engine light being on, engine stalling, longer cold starts, power loss, rough engine running, and sometimes not starting at all. The owner suspects the camshaft sensor might be the cause. A similar problem was shared by another Peugeot owner, whose mechanic identified the issue as a faulty master gear on the camshaft and resolved it by replacing the encoder wheel. It was suggested that the current problem could be resolved in a similar manner, although professional mechanic inspection was recommended for a more complex issue.

Hey, thanks for your support and for sharing your experiences. Your description sounds really similar to my problem - that gives me hope. Do you have any idea how much you paid the mechanic for the repair? And was there anything else afterwards or was it just this one problem? I hope you had peace of mind afterwards. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I'm glad I was able to help you. After my mechanic got to work, the problem with the malfunctioning camshaft sensor was solved. I was really relieved! I paid €695 for the repair of the encoder wheel on the camshaft. A good chunk of money, but it was worth it to me. Fortunately, my little Peugeot hasn't had any more problems since then. I hope this helps you a little and you'll have peace of mind with your car again.

Wow, thanks for the info! 695 is indeed not small change, but if it means I can drive again with a clear conscience, it would probably be worth it. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's only the master gear on the camshaft that's to blame and that there's nothing else wrong. Your story certainly gives me courage. I'll take the car to the garage tomorrow and hope for the best. Thanks again for your help!

Hey there, I have a Peugeot 308 2015 3 cylinder petrol. I have p0344 code I can’t seem to solve. Recently changed the timing belt. Followed correct procedures. Bought new sensors still having these issues.

The P0344 code indicates a problem with the Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Intermittent. Since you've already replaced the sensors and the timing belt, the issue might be with the wiring or connectors. Check for any damaged or loose connections. If everything seems fine, you might want to consider having a professional mechanic inspect the issue, as it could be more complex. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?

Hey, I feel for you because I had a similar problem with my 2016 Peugeot 508. In my case, it was actually a fault with the master gear on the camshaft. The symptoms were similar, uneven engine running, sporadic loss of power and problems starting. The mechanic replaced the encoder wheel on the camshaft, which was actually not an easy task as the inner workings are quite complex. Even if I don't quote a price, I can tell you that it was definitely not a minor operation. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it might be something less complicated for you after all.
