Engine problems with 2004 Ford Fiesta: Looking for experience with crankshaft sensor

Hi guys, I'm currently having a few problems with my 2004 Ford Fiesta (gasoline engine, 95734 km run): While driving, the engine just stalls, the cold start time takes longer than usual, the engine power is reduced and the check engine light comes on. Sometimes the car won't start at all. I suspect it could be the crankshaft sensor. Have any of you had similar problems and taken it to a mechanic? How did it go, I need your experience! Unfortunately, my last garage wasn't the best... Thanks for your help!

Summary of the thread

A 2004 Ford Fiesta is experiencing engine stalling, delayed cold starts, reduced power, and a check engine light, with occasional failure to start. The suspected cause is a faulty crankshaft sensor. A similar issue in a 2001 Ford Focus was resolved by replacing the damaged wiring harness and crankshaft sensor plug, leading to a successful repair. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle checked at a garage, as the repair is not overly complicated and can restore normal engine function.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I know the problem! Recently had something similar with my 2001 Ford Focus. The car simply stalled while driving and then wouldn't start at all. The wiring harness and plug on the crankshaft sensor were damaged and had to be replaced. From the consistency of your symptoms, I would say it's a serious problem and you should definitely have it checked at a garage. It took me a while to fix it, but everything has been fine since then. But don't worry, if it's just the sensor, the repair isn't that complicated at all. Hope this helps you! All the best!

Hey, great, thanks for your feedback! It's a bit reassuring to know that the repair itself shouldn't be that complicated. I've already made an appointment at another workshop to have it checked. Do you happen to remember how much you paid for the repair? And have you noticed anything else since then, or is your car now running without any further problems? Thank you in advance!

Hi, no problem, I'm glad if I can help! The repair cost me €170, as the wiring harness and crankshaft sensor plug were defective and had to be replaced. But after that I had no further problems. Since the visit to the mechanic, the crankshaft sensor malfunction has been rectified and everything is running smoothly again. So don't worry too much. Hopefully everything will run smoothly for you too! Good luck!

Hey, thanks for all the information! 170 definitely sounds doable and I'm relieved to hear that you haven't had any more problems since then. I hope it doesn't get any worse than that for me either. You've definitely helped me a lot and I feel a lot better prepared for my appointment at the garage now. Thanks again and I hope you continue to have a good journey! All the best!
