Engine problems with Skoda Rapid 2018: fuel pump defective?

Car won't start

Longer cold start time

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Engine shuts off by itself

Unsteady engine

Hello everyone! I'm currently facing a real conundrum with my 2018 Skoda Rapid petrol engine, which already has 52900 km on the clock. The check engine light is on, the engine just cuts out, the cold start time is getting longer, loss of power, uneven engine running, jerking when accelerating and now it won't even start. I suspect that the fuel pump is defective. Have any of you ever had similar problems with your car and can tell me how it went at the mechanic? I didn't have a good experience the last time I went to the garage and don't want to pay the price again. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi, I actually had similar problems with my 2015 Skoda Octavia. The symptoms are similar to the ones you describe. After a bit of troubleshooting, I found out that it was the control unit that had given up the ghost. Unfortunately, it wasn't a small thing that could be easily fixed. The car was jerking, the engine light was on and sometimes I even had problems starting it, similar to yours. I took my car to the garage and after a while the mechanics realized that the control unit needed to be replaced. I have to say that my car wasn't the newest either and already had a few kilometers on the clock. I hope you find a solution to your problem. It's never pleasant when your car goes on strike. Good luck!

Hi, I haven't had your problem yet, but your story sounds a lot like mine last weekend. My Rapid also had a few quirks and error messages and it turned out to be the control unit. Do you have any idea how much the repair cost and whether there have been any further problems since then? At the end of such adventures, you're always left wondering when the next part will give up the ghost... Fingers crossed that you get it sorted quickly!

Oh man, these car stories are really nerve-wracking, aren't they? I can still remember pretty well how I ended up paying €210 to repair the fault in the fuel line. Since then I've had peace of mind. Your suspicion about the fuel pump sounds pretty plausible, as I had the same problem with my Skoda. After I had the car at the mechanic, the defective fuel pump part was quickly replaced and lo and behold! All the problems were blown away. Since then, my old slicer has been running like a champ again, knocking on wood! So definitely have the mechanic take a look. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works just as well for you! Good luck!

Hey, that really encourages me! Your problem sounds very similar to mine. I hope it's just the fuel pump. I took the car to the mechanic as soon as the problems started. Even though it hasn't gone so well the last few times, I have to say that the mechanic really did a good job this time. He replaced the fuel pump and it seems like that was the solution! Glad to hear you haven't had any further problems since the repair. That reassures me and gives me hope that my Rapid will now run for a while without causing any problems. Your story really helped me. Thank you for sharing your experiences with me and for keeping your fingers crossed! Hopefully the series of breakdowns has now come to an end. All the best to you and your Skoda!
