Engine problems with the Seat Arona 2019: symptoms point to fuel pressure regulator

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Strong exhaust smell

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Jerking on acceleration

Poor fuel economy

Engine shuts off by itself

Stalling while idling

Unsteady engine

Hello everyone, my Seat Arona, year 2019, gasoline engine with approx. 21362 km on the clock, the engine is going crazy. Black smoking exhaust when accelerating, engine light, stalling engine, loss of power, jerky driving when accelerating and enormously increased fuel consumption and stench from the exhaust. The worst thing is that it simply stalls when idling. Could this be due to the fuel pressure regulator? I have the feeling that this matches the symptoms. Can you help me? I'm a burnt child from my last visit to the garage, so I'd like to hear your experiences before I go back to the mechanic. Thank you in advance!

Hey, I had similar problems with my 2016 Seat Ibiza. The same thing with the engine light, smoke from the exhaust, high fuel consumption and stench. I found out that it was a bigger issue. It wasn't the fuel pressure regulator, but the injection pump, which was really giving my engine a hard time. The jerking and stalling at idle also strongly suggest this. Maybe it's similar for you, but I'm not a mechanic, so off to the specialist. I hope this helps you a little. Our boxes are just not perfect. All the best, man!

Hey, thanks for your reply! From your description, it does sound very similar to what's going on in my car. Do you happen to remember how much it cost you to replace the injection pump back then? And have you had any other problems with the engine or anything else since then? I've now also realized that our carts are not untouchable... I hope to see an improvement soon. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem! I remember being charged about €640 to repair the injection pump at the time. But since I went to see my mechanic, the fault with the fuel pressure regulator has been fixed. Since then, my car has been running like clockwork again - no further problems with the engine or anything. So, take it easy and keep your head up, man! With a bit of luck, your Seat Arona will soon be back in top form. Keep us up to date!

Thank you very much for your help! Well, that gives me some encouragement that this doesn't necessarily mean the end for my little runabout... 640€ is quite a lot, but it's better than buying a new car. I'm really pleased that you haven't had any more problems since the repair. I'll definitely do some research and let you know how it goes. Until then, have a good time and thanks again, man!

It's quite unusual to have to replace injectors so frequently. This could be due to poor fuel quality, a faulty fuel pump, or an issue with the engine control unit (ECU). I would recommend having a mechanic perform a thorough inspection of your fuel system and ECU to identify the root cause of the problem.
