Engine warning light and power loss in Peugeot 4008 Diesel: Possible causes and solutions

Hey guys, I have a question. The engine warning light is illuminated on my 2015 Peugeot 4008 Diesel (almost 168,273 KM down). I have also noticed a loss of power, irregular engine running and jerking when accelerating. It also stalls when idling and black smoke comes out of the exhaust when accelerating. Could this possibly be due to the swirl flaps on the intake manifold? Has anyone had similar experiences and can tell me how it went with your mechanic? I had really bad luck at the workshop last time. Thanks for your help!

Summary of the thread

The issue involves a 2015 Peugeot 4008 Diesel experiencing an illuminated engine warning light, power loss, irregular engine running, jerking when accelerating, stalling when idling, and black smoke from the exhaust. The problem could be due to broken swirl flaps on the intake manifold, as suggested by a similar experience with a 2016 Peugeot 3008 Diesel. The recommended solution is to have the intake manifold and swirl flaps replaced by a mechanic. Another potential cause could be a faulty temperature sensor or contamination in the intake tract, which can be resolved by cleaning with blasting material.

Hey, I had exactly the same problem with my 2016 Peugeot 3008 Diesel. The swirl flaps were actually broken. My car had the same symptoms as yours: engine warning light, irregular engine running, loss of power and jerking when accelerating. Black smoke was also a clear symptom. Better have it checked in the garage as soon as possible. It was a serious problem, I could hardly drive the car. I then had to have the intake manifold and the swirl flaps completely replaced. Apart from that, the mechanic was very friendly and explained everything well. The whole process in the workshop was smooth and easy to understand, from the initial diagnosis to the final repair. So cheer up, if that's it, your car will run like new again afterwards!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! It looks like I'll be just as lucky to get this problem fixed. Can you actually remember how deep you had to dig into your pockets for the repairs? And has anything else given up the ghost since you replaced the intake manifold and the swirl flaps?

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! I had to put €865 on the table back then because the swirl flap was broken. It was a bit expensive, but since it was repaired, my Peugeot runs like a new car, really great! Nothing has broken since the intake manifold and the swirl flaps were replaced. It's highly recommended that you find out about the costs beforehand. If you have this done, your car should run smoothly again afterwards. Good luck and hopefully you have a better experience at the garage than last time!

Thank you very much, that really helps me! It gives me a bit of courage to go to the mechanic and hopefully have a less bumpy road to repair. Especially if my wallet is a bit lighter afterwards! I will definitely check out the prices before I start the repair. Those were really great tips and I appreciate you taking the time to discuss my issues. Let's hope my Peugeot will be running like new again after the repair, just like yours! Thanks again and see you next time for car problems!

Hello everyone, I also have a Peugeot 4008 which has the following problem. When it's cold it runs normally, but when it's at operating temperature it runs erratically and feels like an injector is defective. According to my garage, these are fine. Agr valve was suspected and has also been replaced because the diaphragm was defective. Diesel filter has been replaced, high pressure pump is OK. It doesn't show any errors either, so my workshop has given up. Do you have any idea what is wrong with it? It was a pensioner's car with a good 60000 kilometers on the clock. I actually think the car is great. Thanks in advance, hopefully someone here has a tip

nPeugeot 4008 runs unevenly at operating temperature as if an injector is defective. When cold, it runs normally. Injectors, high pressure pump and agr valve are in order. My garage has given up, the car does not show any errors. Does anyone have any advice? Many thanks in advance

Hello, it could also be that the intake tract is "coked up", especially with the low mileage. This means that there is contamination in the intake manifold and in the cylinder head due to the EGR valve. This contamination can be removed with the aid of blasting material. Please let us know if you were able to repair your vehicle.

My 4008 has the check engine light on and a loss of power. The garage told me there's an oil overfill and air bubbles. They think it might be the turbo, but they're not sure.

Start by checking the oil level yourself to confirm if there's indeed an overfill. If the oil level is too high, it can cause issues like loss of power and potentially damage the turbo. Drain the excess oil to the correct level and see if the problem persists. If the issue continues, it would be wise to have a mechanic inspect the turbocharger for any signs of damage or failure. Keep us updated on your progress or if you have any further questions.
