Epica Active Hood Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Chevrolet Epica diesel is experiencing an "Active hood fault" message and a constantly lit airbag warning light. The issue is likely caused by a faulty acceleration sensor, which can trigger false positives and activate the hood's safety mechanisms. The sensor is typically located behind the front bumper, and while checking the wiring is possible, professional diagnostics and repair are recommended due to the need for calibration. The problem was resolved by replacing the defective sensor.

No, no recent work on the front end. Where exactly is the acceleration sensor located? Is it something I could potentially replace myself, or am I looking at a trip to the workshop?

It's usually behind the front bumper, near the impact zone. You could check the wiring and connector, but based on the symptoms, especially the triggered actuators, it's likely the sensor itself is defective. A new sensor needs to be calibrated to the car. I would suggest professional diagnostics and repair.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I had it checked and you were spot on – defective acceleration sensor! Cost me 315€ for the new sensor and the work. At least it's sorted, I guess! Thanks!

Sounds like a faulty acceleration sensor. These systems detect a collision and lift the hood to protect pedestrians. When the sensor goes bad, it can trigger false positives. Have you had any front-end work done recently?
