Epica EGR Valve Issue

Alright, I'm getting worried. My 2014 Chevrolet Epica diesel is acting up. Symptoms galore: power loss, check engine light, smoke on acceleration, rough running, guzzling fuel, jerking...and a loud hissing noise too! Mileage is at 113479 km. I'm thinking EGR valve, am I on the right track here? Anyone experienced this?

Summary of the thread

The 2014 Chevrolet Epica diesel exhibited symptoms such as power loss, check engine light, smoke on acceleration, rough running, increased fuel consumption, jerking, and a loud hissing noise. These issues suggested a potential problem with the EGR valve. While other possibilities like a turbo issue or clogged catalytic converter were considered, the EGR valve was identified as the likely culprit. Cleaning the valve was suggested, but replacement was recommended due to the vehicle's age. Ultimately, the EGR valve was replaced at a workshop, resolving the issues.

Hissing, smoke, rough idle, and a check engine light? Sounds nasty. Reduced power points to a potential turbo issue too, especially with that mileage. Any codes when the check engine light came on? You'd need a scanner for that. Could even be something completely different, like a clogged catalytic converter if you're getting smoke. Are you sure it's not something else?

A clogged catalytic converter, really? Or turbo issue? Wouldn't those usually throw different codes? If it is the EGR, is it possible to clean it myself, or am I just asking for more trouble?

Okay, okay, so you're thinking EGR is most likely. Given all those symptoms together, and you're not getting any other specific sensor errors, yeah, EGR is a strong contender. Cleaning it might work, but honestly, on an Epica that age, it's probably jammed good. You could try, but I'd brace yourself for needing a replacement. Either way, you're looking at a visit to a workshop to clear the codes and potentially replace the valve. Don't forget that a faulty EGR valve can also affect your emissions test, so don't delay fixing it.

Thanks for the help! Turns out it was the EGR valve, just like I suspected. Cost me 355€ to get it sorted at the workshop. Runs like new now!
