Epica gearbox slipping

My 2011 Chevrolet Epica with a gasoline engine (96000 km) has a gearbox that slips sometimes, and the shifts aren't clean. I've heard this could be a transfer case oil wear fault. Is this a common problem? Could it be defective gears or oil leakage? Gear grinding is another symptom I've encountered in other vehicles, is that probable?

Summary of the thread

A 2011 Chevrolet Epica is experiencing gearbox slipping and unclean shifts, potentially due to a transfer case oil wear fault. Possible causes include defective gears, oil leakage, or gear grinding. A suggested solution is to inspect the transfer case oil for metallic particles and consider replacing defective gears and changing the oil. Booking a workshop visit for a thorough inspection and early intervention is recommended to prevent further mechanical wear.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my Epica a while back. Gear wear was definitely the culprit. Have you checked for any unusual noises coming from the gearbox, like a whining sound that changes with speed? Also, when was the last time you had an oil change? That could also be related.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't noticed any whining noises, but the oil change was quite a while ago. How did you know it was gear wear, and how was it fixed? Was the oil particularly nasty when you drained it?

Well, the oil looked like it had glitter in it - small metallic particles. The workshop confirmed it after they opened the transfer case. I would suggest you take it to a workshop to check the oil and, if needed, do a replacement of the defective gears and oil change. I had to get mine repaired, cost about 330€. Better to catch it early and avoid further mechanical wear.

Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate you sharing your experience. Looks like I'll be booking a workshop visit soon. I'll get the transfer case oil checked and gears inspected. Hopefully, it's a simple fix, but at least I know what to expect now.
