Epica Multifunction Steering Wheel Failure

Multifunction steering wheel on my 2007 Chevrolet Epica with a gasoline engine has stopped working. None of the buttons respond, and I'm getting an error light. The garage found an error stored in memory related to the steering wheel. Fuses seem fine. The car has 167675 km on the clock. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Summary of the thread

The multifunction steering wheel on a 2007 Chevrolet Epica has stopped working, with none of the buttons responding and an error light appearing. The garage identified an error related to the steering wheel, but fuses were fine. A similar issue in another vehicle was caused by a faulty connection within the steering wheel, specifically a broken wire in the wiring harness. The recommended solution is to have a professional workshop diagnose and repair the faulty wiring, as it involves complex electrical work and potential airbag risks.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra, though a different model year. The symptoms were almost identical – steering wheel controls dead, error light on the dash. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty connection within the steering wheel itself. Is the error code you got more specific than just 'steering wheel error'?

Thanks! The error code wasn't very specific, something like 'Steering wheel control module - no signal'. I'm thinking it might be a connectivity problem, as you suggested. Was it a difficult fix on your Astra? Anything I should be aware of before poking around?

The error code confirms the defective cable connection. On my Astra, it ended up being a broken wire within the steering wheel wiring harness, right where it flexes when you turn the wheel. I wouldn't recommend tackling it yourself unless you're really comfortable with electrical work and airbags. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They'll be able to diagnose it properly and replace the faulty section of the wiring.

Okay, sounds like wise advice. I'll book it in with a local shop. They've quoted me about 95€ for the repair, reckon it's a defective cable connection in the steering wheel, as was suggested here. Thanks for sharing your experience!
