Equinox Boost Pressure Issue

I'm having boost pressure issues with my 2020 Chevrolet Equinox gasoline engine at 120544 kilometers. The check engine light is on, power is reduced, and the engine response is poor. It sometimes stalls, fuel consumption is up, and there's a whistling noise that turns into a loud hiss when I accelerate. I suspect the wastegate valve, but I've checked the throttle body, intercooler, and MAP sensor. Anyone else seen this?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Chevrolet Equinox experienced boost pressure issues, indicated by a check engine light, reduced power, poor engine response, stalling, increased fuel consumption, and a whistling noise turning into a loud hiss during acceleration. The initial suspicion was a wastegate valve problem, despite checks on the throttle body, intercooler, and MAP sensor. A suggestion to inspect turbo hoses for cracks or leaks was made, but ultimately, a diagnostic confirmed the wastegate valve issue, and its replacement resolved the problem, restoring normal performance and fuel economy.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I think I had something like that in my Equinox a while back. The hissing sound is what really clicks. Does it feel like you're trying to run through molasses when you hit the gas? For me, it was like the turbo was just pretending to work. Did you check all the hoses going to and from the turbo? Sometimes those can crack and leak boost, which throws everything off.

Thanks. I gave the hoses a quick look, but maybe I wasn't thorough enough. Where exactly did you find the crack or leak? Knowing the location would help. And did the issue come and go, or was it always there once it started?

Now that I think about it, I couldn't find the leak myself. The symptoms would come and go, which was strange. I was thinking about replacing the turbo, but the dealer found it was a wastegate valve issue. Just take it to a shop and have them smoke test the system. It will save you a lot of time.

I appreciate your insights. I scheduled a diagnostic appointment with my mechanic. Replacing the wastegate valve, costing 860€, fixed it. The hissing sound is gone, power is back, and fuel economy is normal. Thanks again!
