Equinox exhaust back pressure sensor issue
Summary of the thread
The issue with the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox involves a warning light and smoke during acceleration, suspected to be caused by a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. Symptoms include a slight drop in fuel efficiency and hesitation during acceleration. Cleaning the sensor may provide a temporary fix, but replacement is recommended to prevent further issues with the emission control system. Booking an appointment with a service center for sensor replacement is advised for a long-term solution.

I've seen a slight drop in fuel efficiency, and the car hesitates a little when I start accelerating. What was your experience and how did you fix it?

Yeah, the hesitation and fuel economy drop are dead giveaways. I tried cleaning the sensor at first, but it was a temporary fix. Honestly, just bite the bullet and get it replaced. It's likely the sensor itself is faulty. I wouldn't mess with it too much; a bad back pressure sensor can mess with your whole emission control system. Find a good workshop and have them take a look. It's worth the peace of mind.

Thanks for the advice. I've booked an appointment with a service center to replace the exhaust back pressure sensor. The estimated cost is about 245€.

Hey, I've got an Equinox too, and your issue sounds eerily familiar to what I went through a while back. Warning light plus smoke... definitely rings a bell. Did you notice any changes in fuel economy or engine performance besides the smoke?
