Equinox transmission control unit failure

Alright, I'm stumped. My 2011 Chevy Equinox with the gasoline engine is throwing a fit. 127k km on the clock. The parking position seems totally borked. Engine won't start, check engine light's on, gearbox is slipping like crazy, and the error memory is full of who-knows-what. My scanner points to a defective control unit. Is this the dreaded transmission sensor issue? I'm looking at a 1000€ repair bill… seriously?

Summary of the thread

A 2011 Chevy Equinox is experiencing significant transmission issues, including failure to start in park, a check engine light, and gearbox slipping. The problem is suspected to be a defective transmission control unit, possibly linked to a faulty transmission sensor. The suggested solution is to take the vehicle to a reputable workshop for a thorough diagnosis and repair, as the issue appears to be beyond a simple sensor replacement.

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my Equinox – though thankfully not quite as severe. Was it hard to shift out of park at all beforehand? I'm wondering if your gear shifter is acting up. Could be a faulty transmission sensor. Did you check the neutral position to see if it starts then? Might give you a clue.

Good call on the neutral position. Tried it, no luck. Still won't start. Gear shifter felt a little stiff sometimes before all this went down. Any chance your 'similar' issue ended up being the control unit? Because that's what they're telling me. Transmission repair is not my forte, unfortunately.

Yeah, control unit was the culprit in my case too. Symptoms weren't exactly the same, but the 'stiff shifter' comment rings a bell. Seems like yours has progressed further. Honestly, at this point, I'd bite the bullet and take it to a reputable workshop, especially with the error codes you're seeing. Sounds like more than just a simple sensor replacement.

Appreciate the insight. Seems like I'm headed for the shop. At least now I know what to expect… a painful bill. Thanks for confirming my suspicions!
