Equus Transmission Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Hyundai Equus is experiencing transmission issues, including rough shifting, slipping, grinding noises, and occasional limp mode activation, with the engine and transmission lights on. The suspected cause is a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor, potentially triggered by low transmission oil levels. It is suggested to have the vehicle professionally diagnosed, as the sensor itself might be faulty. The issue was confirmed to be a faulty sensor, likely due to low oil, and was resolved at a workshop.

Domino effect is spot on! I haven't checked the oil level yet. Where is the dipstick located? Or do I have to go underneath the car?

Unfortunately, there's no dipstick for the transmission fluid on our cars. You have to access a check plug underneath the vehicle. However, given the symptoms you describe – limp mode, rough shifting – and your initial suspicion of the temperature sensor, it might be prudent to have it professionally diagnosed. A low oil level can certainly trigger the sensor, but the sensor itself could also be faulty. I ended up having my sensor replaced to resolve the issue.

Thanks a million! You were spot on. Dropped it at the workshop, and they confirmed a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor, likely caused by low oil. Total damage: 365€ Appreciate the help!

I had a similar problem with my Equus. Is it showing any specific error codes? When mine acted like that, I initially suspected the solenoids but the issue was more subtle. Have you checked your gearbox oil level? That can cause all sorts of weird transmission behaviour, almost like a domino effect.
