Hey, thanks for your quick reply! It's really good to have someone understand what I'm going through. A problem with the encoder wheel sounds like quite a burden. Do you remember how much the repair cost you in the end? And has anything else given up the ghost since then or is your C5 running perfectly? I'll definitely be going to the garage soon to avoid further damage. Thanks again!

Hello, no problem, that's what we're all here for. The repair of the sensor wheel on the camshafts cost me around €695 at the time. It was a lot of money, but afterwards my Citroen C5 ran like clockwork. And oh, I almost forgot to mention, because of this problem the malfunction of the camshaft sensor had also stopped since I had been to the mechanic. Yes, it hurt my wallet a bit, but it was worth it. Since then, nothing else has broken and my little guy runs like a champ. Hope this helps you!

It's definitely more than I had hoped for, but if it solves the problem and my C5 runs like new again afterwards, it's worth it. I'm relieved to hear that you haven't had any further problems since. That gives me hope. I will make an appointment at the garage and hopefully it won't be too bad. Thanks again for your help and advice. It has really helped me!

Hi buddy, I once had a similar problem with my 2010 Citroen C5. It turned out to be a problem with the master gear on the camshafts. It was indeed quite a serious problem that required a thorough check and service. At the time, my car smelled strange when starting and was quite rough to drive, not unlike what you described. At the garage they ended up having to replace the faulty encoder wheel, which was no small task. But once that was fixed, the engine ran like a charm again. As I'm not an expert, I can't say for sure that you have the same problem. But it could well be the camshaft sensor that is causing you problems. It's best to have it checked by professionals before the damage gets any worse. Take care, and hopefully it's nothing too bad.
