Thanks for sharing your experience. Currently at 139390 KM on my Escalade. After following up on the transmission repair, my mechanic confirmed the lock-up clutch is indeed failing. The symptoms appeared gradually over the past 2 weeks, starting with minor shifting hesitation before developing into the current grinding noise and warning lights. The automatic gearbox shows error code P0741, specifically pointing to the torque converter clutch circuit. No fluid leaks visible, but the transmission problems seem worse when the engine is cold. Looking at the repair estimate of 2350€, which seems in line with what you paid for your converter fault fix. Planning to book the repair next week to prevent any additional transmission damage. Your insight has been really helpful in confirming my suspicions about the converter issue.

Thanks for the update. The symptoms and error code P0741 on your Escalade match exactly what I experienced with my XT6. The cold-start transmission problems are a classic sign of torque converter lock-up clutch failure. The 2350€ quote is reasonable for the repair work needed. When my workshop did the converter replacement, they also recommended changing the transmission fluid and filter while they had everything apart. This added about 180€ to my total but was worth it for preventive maintenance. One thing I noticed after my repair, the transmission actually started performing better than it had in months before the obvious converter failure symptoms appeared. Looking back, there were subtle signs of declining performance that I had attributed to normal wear. The 3-day turnaround time they quoted you is standard for this type of transmission repair. Make sure they test drive it thoroughly after the work is done. My mechanic put about 50km on it to ensure the new torque converter was functioning properly through all driving conditions. Keep us updated on how the repair goes. Based on my experience with the same issue, you should notice an immediate improvement in transmission performance once the new converter is installed.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I wanted to follow up and share how everything turned out with my Escalade transmission repair. The auto transmission work has been completed, and the results are excellent. The workshop replaced the torque converter and did a full transmission fluid change as suggested. Final cost came to 2530€ including the additional fluid service. The engine surge and grinding noise are completely gone, and the automatic gearbox is shifting perfectly smooth again. The clutch problem turned out to be exactly what was suspected, a failed torque converter lock-up clutch. The mechanic showed me the worn components after the repair. The transmission repair took just under 3 days as estimated. Really glad I addressed this when I did. The technician mentioned waiting longer could have caused more extensive damage to the transmission. The vehicle feels like new again, no warning lights, no rough shifts, and no more concerning noises. For anyone facing similar symptoms, definitely get it checked out early. The repair cost was significant but worth it to prevent a complete transmission failure.

I experienced a very similar issue with my 2019 Cadillac XT6 diesel. With some experience working on cars, I can say the symptoms you describe strongly point to a torque converter fault. Mine showed identical warning signs, transmission warning lights, rough shifting, and that distinctive grinding noise. The lock-up clutch inside the torque converter was indeed the culprit, causing the automatic gearbox to malfunction. After diagnosing the converter fault, I had the entire torque converter assembly replaced. The total repair cost was 2120€, which included labor and parts. The workshop needed about 3 days to complete the job since they had to remove the entire transmission. The repair completely resolved all symptoms, and the transmission has been shifting smoothly ever since. The investment was worth it to prevent more extensive automatic gearbox damage. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Current mileage on your Escalade, When did the symptoms first appear, Have you noticed any transmission fluid leaks, Does the clutch problem occur more frequently when the engine is cold or warm, What error codes is your vehicle showing This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced with my XT6.
