Escape Automatic Transmission Shifting Issues

My 2006 Ford Escape (gasoline engine) is having automatic transmission issues at 233039 km. It shifts strangely, the transmission light comes on sometimes, and it occasionally goes into emergency mode. Could it be undervoltage?

Sounds familiar! I had similar transmission problems with my Escape. The shifting got really wonky, and the light kept popping on. Have you checked the transmission fluid level and condition? When mine acted up, it turned out to be a mess.

Thanks! I checked the fluid level, and it seemed okay, but I didn't check the condition. What was the condition of your transmission fluid when you had these issues?

Mine was dark and smelled burnt. Definitely not healthy. I got a full transmission flush, but the problem returned soon after. Eventually, the workshop said it was undervoltage causing the issues. I'd recommend getting it checked out by a professional before doing anything drastic.

Understood. I took it to a local workshop, and they confirmed the undervoltage. After fixing that and replacing the transmission oil, the shifting problems are gone. The final repair cost was 240€.
