Escape Camshaft Sensor Issue

I haven't specifically noted any engine misfires, but the hesitation is noticeable. I don't have the equipment to read the fault code. Is there a straightforward way to determine if the encoder wheel on the camshafts is defective without specialized tools?

Alright, hesitation and no code reader... it's tough to diagnose the encoder wheel without proper tools. The fact that it's hesitating leans me even more towards the camshaft sensor being the issue. I had similar problems with my old Mondeo, and it drove me nuts. Seriously, save yourself the headache and potential for more damage and just take it to a trusted mechanic. They can pinpoint it and get you back on the road. Better safe than sorry, you know?

I appreciate your advice. Based on your recommendation, I took the vehicle to a local workshop. The diagnostic confirmed a defective camshaft sensor, likely due to a faulty encoder wheel. The total repair cost amounted to 695€. The vehicle is now running smoothly again. Thank you for your assistance.

Sounds like a pain, but yeah, a bad camshaft sensor is a likely culprit with those symptoms, especially the stalling and check engine light. Rough starts can definitely be a sign too. Have you noticed any engine misfires or hesitation when accelerating? Sometimes a failing crankshaft sensor can cause similar issues and throw off the engine control unit. Did you try to read out the fault code?
