Escape Hybrid MAF Sensor Issue

Hey, my 2012 Ford Escape hybrid is acting up with 166k km. Fuel consumption is way up. The engine sometimes stalls when idling. Plus, the check engine light is on, and I noticed some smoke when accelerating. Could a bad MAF sensor cause all this?

Sounds familiar. I've got an Escape hybrid too, and those symptoms ring a bell. That check engine light could be a lot of things, though. Have you tried reading the error code?

Yeah, I read the code. It points to a mass air flow meter malfunction. Does that confirm what you suspected? And is it okay to drive with a faulty MAF?

Ah, MAF... that's what I had. If the code nailed it, then yeah, pretty sure it's the MAF sensor. As for driving, it's not great. You'll keep burning extra fuel and could cause other issues down the line. I'd recommend getting it checked by a workshop soon.

Thanks! I took it to the workshop, and indeed, the MAF sensor was defective. Replaced it for 365€, and everything's running smoothly now. Appreciate the help!
