Interesting. So the speed sensor was preventing the fan from working even when the engine temperature was high? Was it an easy fix?

Yes, that's correct. The sensor acts like a traffic controller for the fan: if it goes bad, it throws everything off. As for easy... it wasn't something I could handle myself. The sensor on my Megane was tricky to reach. It needed a replacement and then the mechanic cleared the error code. I'd advise getting it checked in a workshop. It cost me around 250€ because the mechanic suggested replacing the radiator itself. A car radiator is like a lung, you can live with one, but I prefer two.

Thanks for the advice! It does sound like the speed sensor is the culprit. I took it to a mechanic, and indeed it was the speed sensor. The repair cost me 250€. The radiator is fine! Appreciate your help!

That sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane, which also resulted in engine overheating and the check engine light coming on. In my case, it turned out to be a defective speed sensor causing the fan to not kick in when it should have. Have you noticed any unusual fan noise or the absence of it?
