Escape Transmission Issues

My 2007 Ford Escape (gasoline engine) has the check engine and transmission indicator lights on. The transmission slips, shifts roughly, and makes grinding noises. Error memory says it could be the torque converter. Mileage is 209017 km. Has anyone had similar issues?

Sounds familiar! I also have an Escape and had similar symptoms. Do you notice it more when the engine is cold, or does it happen all the time? Is the grinding noise constant, or just during specific gear changes? Mine was really bad going into overdrive.

The issues are worse when the engine is warm. The grinding is most noticeable during gear changes, especially between 2nd and 3rd gear. Did the error memory also point to the torque converter in your case?

Yep, that's exactly what mine did. Warming up made it worse too. And yup, the shop diagnosed mine as a torque converter failure. Honestly, I'd get it checked by a reputable transmission shop. It's not a cheap fix, unfortunately.

Thank you for the information. The workshop confirmed the defective torque converter. The repair cost is estimated at 2120€. Your input was very helpful in understanding the issue and potential resolution.
