Eseries audio system dead

Alright, I'm officially stumped. My 2005 Ford Eseries with a diesel engine is giving me absolute fits with the audio system. It's completely dead – no sound whatsoever. The display is dark. I even ran a diagnostic and it's throwing an error in the error memory related to the audio unit. I've checked the fuses and wiggled some of the wiring behind the head unit, thinking maybe there's a loose connection but no change. I’m only at 50268 km. Has anyone else experienced this gremlin? I'm dreading taking it to a mechanic, but I'm running out of ideas. Could this be the head unit itself just giving up the ghost?

Summary of the thread

The audio system in a 2005 Ford Eseries is completely non-functional, with no sound or display. Diagnostics indicate an error related to the audio unit. Despite checking fuses and wiring, the issue persists, suggesting a potential failure of the head unit itself. A similar problem was resolved by replacing a defective display, indicating that professional repair might be necessary.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Eseries, but mine was producing a constant static noise, even with the volume all the way down. The volume control was also unresponsive, like it wasn't even connected. Does yours have anything like that?

No static at all, just complete silence. Everything was working fine and the next time I started the engine, nothing. Did you ever figure out what the cause was, or how to fix it?

Yeah, I ended up taking it to a shop. They said it was a defective display and needed to be replaced. Cost me a small fortune, but at least it's working now. Probably best to take it in. No point poking around if it's not a simple fuse.

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the info. I'll bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. They quoted me 725€ to get the display replaced. Hopefully that'll solve the problem!
