Eseries Diesel Engine Problems
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Ford Eseries diesel with 218k km is experiencing increased fuel consumption, weak engine performance, and an illuminated check engine light. Initial thoughts of a spark plug issue were dismissed. Potential causes include engine knocking due to cylinder pressure fluctuation or a failing turbocharger. A workshop visit revealed a cascading failure, possibly involving the crankshaft, but a computer reset resolved the issue without any repair costs.

A cascading failure? What do you mean? And yeah, I think I'm hearing something that might be engine knocking. Anything specific I should listen for?

By cascading failure, I mean the root cause wasn't the actual issue. The mechanic checked the fuel injector and said the crankshaft was to blame, since there was consequential error. I'd suggest a workshop visit and let them check it out.

Right, crankshaft! That sounds like a job for the pros. I just got back from the workshop, and they said something similar – some issue that caused a chain reaction. They reset the computer, and now everything works fine again. The repair cost was even 0€!

I drive an Eseries too, year unknown, and I had similar symptoms: reduced engine power, higher fuel consumption, and then the light. For me, it ended up being a cascading failure. Any unusual noises?
